Progression of Computers

Computers have changed the way individuals are able to perform research, complete work, and communicate with others. A computer can be programmed and used to store data, receive signals, and produce documents. The beginning of computers can be traced back to 1940. The first computers took up an entire room and required the amount of power it would take to power hundreds of modern computers.

Personal computers are now so small that they can be programmed into cell phones, and require a very small amount of power in order to run. A computer can be found in just about anything that stores and/or produces data, including children’s toys, MP3 players, airplanes, robots, and more.

As computer technology advanced, these devices became more affordable and able to do much more. They were originally used by the military in order to quickly and efficiently communicate information among branches all over the world. As the computer became more popular for home use, individuals could use it for research, academics, and even fun as games and other programs were developed. Now, just most people in the United States, and many people all over the world have access to a computer.

It’s becoming more unsuual for teachers and professors at all levels of education to accept a handwritten paper any longer; instead it must be typed on a computer and printed out. The boom of the Internet could not have been nearly as successful without the advancement of computer technology, and the widespread use of computers both at home and work. Computers now come in varying sizes, speeds, and with all kinds of extras to fit the needs of any user. The invention of the computer is certainly one that defines the technology era as well as the current generation of individuals who use a computer every single day for multiple uses.
